Mobile Remapping FAQs

What is mobile ECU remapping and how does it work at my location?

Mobile ECU remapping means we come to you—home, work or a convenient meeting point—read your ECU software via the OBD port, apply a calibrated remap from our dyno-developed database, and write it back to the car. We run a pre-tune health check, use a professional battery support unit throughout, and finish with a test drive to verify smooth delivery and diagnostics are clear.

How long does a mobile remap take?

Most Stage 1 remaps take 60-90 minutes from arrival to handover. Some ECUs program faster; others require additional security procedures that add time. We will confirm the expected duration when you book.

Is ECU remapping legal in London and will it affect my MOT or ULEZ status?

Remapping is legal provided your vehicle continues to meet emissions standards. We do not delete emissions controls and our calibrations are designed to pass standard MOT OBD and smoke opacity checks where applicable. ULEZ status is determined by the vehicle’s recorded Euro emissions standard with DVLA, which software remapping does not change. You remain responsible for keeping the vehicle roadworthy and compliant.

Will a remap void my manufacturer warranty or dealership service plan?

Any modification can affect warranty coverage at the manufacturer’s discretion. We keep calibrations within safe operating limits and back up your original file so you can return to stock if needed. If your vehicle is under a strict warranty, consider discussing remapping with your dealer before proceeding.

Is the remap detectable by a dealer, and what about ECU flash counters?

Routine servicing rarely flags a well-implemented remap, but some ECUs record programming events or maintain a flash counter. If a dealer performs a software update, it can overwrite the remap. We can restore your original file or reapply the tune if this occurs.

Is it safe for my engine, turbo and automatic/DSG gearbox?

Yes, when done correctly. We calibrate within manufacturer hardware limits, respect torque and temperature protections, and do not push beyond safe margins. On vehicles with sensitive automatic or DSG gearboxes, we keep engine torque within the transmission’s safe envelope. If a separate TCU tune is advisable, we will discuss that before work begins.

How much extra power or fuel economy can I expect?

Gains vary by engine and condition, but many turbocharged petrol and diesel cars see 20-35% more bhp and significant torque increases, with 5-15% better MPG when driven sensibly. We will quote expected gains for your registration before booking.

Do you need mains power, Wi-Fi or a garage? What if it rains or I live in a flat?

We do not need mains power or Wi-Fi. A level, safe parking space is ideal; underground car parks with poor access or low headroom may not be suitable. Light rain is fine; in heavy rain or unsafe roadside conditions we may use a canopy or reschedule for safety.

Where can you work in central London, and what about parking or road charges?

We cover all London boroughs. We need a legal parking spot where we can open the bonnet and doors safely. If your location requires paid parking or has access restrictions, we may ask you to cover those fees or suggest a nearby alternative. We plan appointments to minimise congestion or road user charges where possible.

What should I do before you arrive?

Make sure the battery is healthy, the car has sufficient fuel, and there are no active warning lights. Remove aftermarket tuning boxes, ensure you have all keys on site, and let us know about any non-standard hardware such as intakes, exhausts or turbos.

Can you return the car to stock later, and do you keep my original file?

Yes. We back up your original software before tuning and can restore it at any time. If a dealer update overwrites the tune, we can reapply the calibration using the latest software version.

What fuel should I use after a remap?

For turbo petrol engines we recommend 97-99 RON to realise the full benefit and safeguard knock control. Diesel vehicles should use quality fuel from a reputable brand. Keep to the manufacturer’s service schedule.

Will my insurance change?

You should inform your insurer of performance-related modifications. Many insurers will cover a remapped vehicle, sometimes with a premium adjustment. Failing to disclose modifications can affect cover.

What vehicles can you remap? Do you tune hybrids or naturally aspirated engines?

We support most modern turbocharged petrol and diesel ECUs. Naturally aspirated engines typically gain less than turbo engines. Fully electric vehicles are not remapped; full hybrids are often unsupported, while some mild-hybrid (MHEV) models are supported—ask us about your specific vehicle.

What if the dealer updates my software during a service?

A dealer software update can overwrite the remap. If that happens, contact us. Depending on your coverage, we can reapply the tune or restore stock and advise on next steps.
